Kenya AA Kiruga Estate
This single estate AA is a home run. Exceptionally well balanced with notes of grapefruit, honey and lime with just a slightly dry tannic finish. Kenyan coffee at it's best!
Arrival Date: August 10th, 2018
Acidity & Brightness: Slightly crisp front end, honey sweetness
Balance & Finish: Great balance, dry finish
Body & Texture: Full bodied, silky texture
Flavors: Grapefruit, lime and honey
Processing: Fully Washed, shade grown, hand picked, sun dried on raised tables
Varietals: Kenya SL28 and SL34
Roasting: Start with a City + (Light-medium) and feel free to try Full City (Medium). Kenyan coffees are famous for their crisp acidity and dark roasting will mute that. However, if you prefer, this coffee may be carried into a Full City Plus and still retain a lot of body and most of it's brightness. This coffee roasts very evenly.
Reminder: This Coffee is raw, you must roast it before brewing
Our Review: This season's harvest of East African coffees is just beginning to hit the states and we picked an early winner from the Nairobi Auction! The Kiruga estate has really outdone themselves this year and the quality really shows in the cup. Less "winey" than some Kenyan coffees we've had in the past, but you'll still notice a dry and slightly tannic finish. The front end is on the crisp side with notes of lime on the tongue and is followed by exceptionally balanced notes of honey and grapefruit. Featuring a full, rich body and silky texture throughout, this coffee is a connoisseur's dream!
