Burundi A Kawazamurabawe
This delicious grade A crop from the Kawazamurabawe Coop (how's that for a mouthful?). It's subtle and gentle with pleasant notes of lime zest, white grapefruit and peach.
Arrival Date: December 27th, 2017
Acidity & Brightness: Slightly crisp and sweet
Balance & Finish: Very balanced, clean finish
Body & Texture: Medium body, smooth
Flavors: Lime zest, white grapefruit & peach
Grade: A - Large Beans, very dense
Processing: Fully washed, hand-picked, sun dried
Roasting: We prefer this coffee between City Plus and Full City (Light-medium to Medium). You'll still get plenty of body even when the coffee is on the light side and you'll be able to enjoy the more subtle flavors. You could take it as dark as Full City Plus (Medium-Dark) and still keep the sweetness and balance, but you'll begin to miss the crisp front end.
Reminder: This is raw coffee. You have to roast it before brewing
Burundi is such an underrated producer when compared to it's neighboring giants like Kenya and Ethiopia, and the coffee coming from this country gets better and better every year. Characteristically gentle and subtle, most of the coffees we've been getting from Burundi have been crisp yet sweet with a tea like body and exceptional balance. If Kenya is big, bold red wine, Burundi is crisp, sweet white wine.
In fact, it's better to compare it to Ethiopian coffee. Not the twisty, funky natural processed Ethiopian coffee, but the washed varieties. Expect a crisp front end, an easy-going body and a pleasantly clean finish. The flavors are very well balanced between slightly tangy and slightly sweet. We noted lime zest, white grapefruit and peach. If you're a fan of light roasting and understated coffees, you'll love this one. Just don't ask us to pronounce it!
