Coffees from Rwanda's Nyamasheke region have been really impressive the last few seasons and this fully washed offering from the Cyesha Washing Station is another great example. It's crisp, sweet and balanced with a clean, refreshing finish. We tasted notes of apricot, raspberry, lime and red apple.

Size :

The Nyamasheke District of Rwanda has quickly built a reputation for producing some of the best coffee Rwanda has to offer and this fully washed offering from the Cyesha Washing Station is a prime example. The front end of the cup is crisp and bright, with a zesty lime and raspberry kick. The body is medium, almost tea like with a silky texture making for an easy drinking cup. Speaking of easy drinking, the finish is just what we’ve come to expect from great washed Rwandan coffee: clean and refreshing. Finally, the flavors in cup are well balanced with notes of apricot, fresh raspberry, red apple and lime with a subtle black tea undertone. Perfect for a refreshing afternoon pick me up, hot or iced.

Reminder! This coffee is raw, you must roast it before brewing

We like this coffee in the City to Full City range (mid first crack to just before 2nd crack). If you want to squeeze out more body, go right up to just before 2nd crack. For more zesty acidity, pull your roast 30 seconds to a minute into 1st crack. We found the best balance of fruit, crisp brightness and silky texture at the tail end of 1st crack.

Royal Coffee NY - "This lot comes to us from Muraho Trading Company’s Cyesha Coffee Washing Station in Nyamasheke, Rwanda. Muraho was founded by two brothers, Karthick & Gaudam Anbalagan, who are driven to showcase to the world what Rwanda specialty coffee is all about. Cyesha is their newest washing station, acquired in December 2021.

Coffee from Cyesha is extra special because of the volcanic soil and high altitude, up to 1800 meters above sea level, of the farm. The washing station is also near one of the majestic African Great Lakes, Lake Kivu. The wind flow from the lake through the surrounding hills is ideal for drying coffees.

Cyesha upholds the highest of standards to achieve the best quality specialty coffee possible. Only red ripe cherries are received at the station. The cherries are all checked upon arrival, then resorted on sorting tables and then passed through an intensive floating quality process. After floating is done then the cherries are pulped and dry fermented for 12 hours. After that the coffee is washed, graded and soaked. Finally the coffee is moved to a pre drying area to be hand sorted until it is moved to the drying tables.

Muraho Trading Company takes pride in testing and experimenting with different processing methods. They are proud to be the first company in Rwanda to be given authority from the governing board to produce Natural and Honey coffees back in 2016. This has since paved the way for other producers to do so! In the coming seasons, they are looking forward to processing honeys, anaerobic fully washed and anaerobic naturals at Cyesha Washing Station.”
