Kenya Peaberry Nyeri Boma
This single estate Peaberry scored incredibly well this year and for good reason. It's well balanced and full bodied with a smooth, silky texture. Look for decadent flavors of ruby grapefruit, green grape and apple with a dry finish.
Arrival Date: August 21th, 2017
Acidity & Brightness: Slightly crisp front end, winey sweetness
Balance & Finish: Great balance, dry, tannic finish
Body & Texture: Full bodied, silky texture
Flavors: Ruby grapefruit, green grape and apple
Processing: Fully Washed, shade grown, hand picked, sun dried on raised tables
Varietals: Kenya SL28 and SL34
Roasting: Start with a City + (Light-medium) and feel free to try Full City (Medium). Kenyan coffees are famous for their crisp acidity and dark roasting will mute that. However, if you prefer, this coffee may be carried into a Full City Plus and still retain a lot of body and most of it's brightness. This coffee roasts very evenly.
Reminder: This Coffee is raw, you must roast it before brewing
Our Review: We've been eagerly awaiting the single estate Kenyan auction lots this year. Since we were so happy with our AA offering already, we decided to branch out and try a peaberry and we're so pleased we did! While peaberrys can be a bit more muted or soft than there normal counterparts, this one was exploding with flavor, body and texture.
With a stellar score of 86 (VERY few coffees score higher than 90 each harvest), it's easy to see why this is such a great coffee once you pour a cup. The aroma is downright intoxicating. The body is rich and full with a smooth, silky texture. It's got a slightly crisp, citrusy front end and a winey sweetness which goes very well with its dry, tannic finish. Look for a smorgasbord of flavors, most notably ruby grapefruit, green grape and red delicious apple.
