Arrival Date: July 22nd, 2016
Acidity & Brightness: Red wine acidity, mild fruity tartness
Balance & Finish: Very balanced with a dry, tannic finish
Body & Texture: Big, rich body and juicy
Flavors: Lime, Melon and Grapefruit
Grade: AA, Large (17-18 screen) Very Hard and Dense
Processing: Fully washed, Shade grown, hand picked, sun dried on raised tables
Varietals: SL28, SL 34 and Ruiru 11
Roasting: Start with a Full City (Medium). Kenyan coffees are famous for their acidity and dark roasting will mute that. However, if you prefer, this coffee may be carried into a Full City Plus or Vienna and still retain a lot of body and most of it's brightness. This coffee roasts very evenly.
Recommendation: If you like Kenyan coffee, you'll love this big, bold, bright cup. Heck, if you like coffee, you're gonna love this Kenyan!
Our Review: When we ran out of our last Kenya AA, we were so impressed with it that we almost ordered it again. But just as we were about to do that, we asked our importer the all important question: "What's the BEST Kenya AA you have right now?" The reply was quick and sure: "The Ichamara is the best cupping Kenya we have, possibly the best scoring coffee we have right now, PERIOD." Well that certainly made the decision easy.
This coffee is no joke. It's got that huge, rich classic Kenyan body, the characteristic red wine acidity and dry, tannic finish. So what sets this coffee apart from all the other fantastic Kenyan Auction Lots? In a word: Balance. All these components and flavors come together in delicate balance to make a supremely delicious coffee. From start to finish, this cup is delightful, sophisticated and downright tasty.
