Organic Guatemala Huehuetenango in decaf form! Rich, bold body and finish with dark chocolate and caramel sweetness. Decaffeinated using the Swiss Water process for a clean taste.
Arrival Date: March 6th, 2020
Acidity & Brightness: Warm and bold with a pleasing moderate acidity
Balance & Finish: Slightly complex with a lingering sweet finish
Body & Texture: Rich, full body and creamy texture
Flavors: Dark chocolate, caramel and lemon
Grade: SHB, very hard and dense, average to large bean size
Processing: Fully washed and decaffeinated using mountain water process (no chemicals)
Roasting: Start with a Full City (Medium) , or right at the beginning of the second crack. If you can't hear the cracks, then roast until the beans are smooth and medium dark brown with no oil. Remember that water processed decaf beans are more sensitive to heat so take it easy and pull early! Try this, and then if you prefer, feel free to carry it darker in subsequent roasts.
Recommendation: Guatemala produces some of our most popular coffees. People who enjoy clean, clear taste profiles in a rich, bold coffee with a chocolate finish will enjoy this coffee. The flavor can be changed substantially depending on how dark you roast it, but just about everyone will find something to like.
Remember! This is raw coffee, you must roast it before brewing
Our Review: Guatemalan coffees are by far our most popular and with good reason! Guatemalan coffees have lots of rich, bold body and they're full of great, slightly complex flavor. They handle a wide range of roasts and usually roast very evenly. It's your everyday coffee, just in decaf form for those after dinner cups!
This decaf is processed in Mexico at Royal Coffee's own facility. It is a water processed decaf, which is a more natural decaffeinating process using only water and no chemicals (not that the other methods are dangerous, but that's another topic for another day...). The water processing method removes 99.8% of the caffeine, which is more than enough that it won't keep you up at night and it leaves more flavor than some other decaffeinating methods.
This is one of our favorite decafs "I don't always drink decaf, but when I do, I drink Guatemalan."
It's all the things you love about Guatemala Huehuetenango coffee but in decaf form. Nicely balanced. Bolder than other Cental/South American coffees, but not so bold as some Sumatrans. Rich body with a sweet, dark chocolate and caramel creaminess to it that you would expect from this region of the world. Just a hint of lemon adds complexity and a pleasant crispness on the front end
