Colombia Huila Naranjales Estate
This single estate Colombian from the Huila region is spectacular! Balanced, full bodied and lively, look for notes of brown sugar, red apple and vanilla.
Arrival Date: January 4th, 2019
Acidity & Brightness: Moderately bright and very sweet
Balance & Finish: Extremely balanced, smooth finish
Body & Texture: Full body with a creamy texture
Flavors: Brown sugar, red apple and vanilla
Grade: Excelso - Medium large, 1650 meters
Certifications: Organic & Fair Trade
Processing: Fully washed, hand picked, sun-dried
Varietals: Colombia, Caturra & Castillo
Roasting: We like this coffee best at a medium roast (Full City), though you'll get even more of the sweet notes at a light-medium (City+). This coffee can handle going darker, but much past Full City + and you'll lose a lot of the subtle notes and sweetness.
Reminder! This coffee is raw, you must roast it before brewing
Our Review: Finca Los Naranjales, named for the orange trees that grow on the farm alongside the coffee, is located in Campoalegre, Huila. The farm is owned by Arcesio Barragan, a first-generation coffee producer. He works with his wife, son-in-law, and one of his daughters on the 29-hectare farm where plantain and yucca plants are scattered among the coffee trees. Coffee is processed on-site, with drying taking place in parabolic beds after washing
This is only our second coffee from the Huila region (as far as any of us can remember at least)! We were so pleased with the last one, we jumped at the chance to try a single estate. It did not disappoint! An aroma crammed full of vanilla and brown sugar gives way to a cup with exception balance, gently crisp front end and delightfully creamy texture. Notes of brown sugar, red apple, and vanilla linger on the tongue making for a memorable cup of joe, to say the least!
