Coffees from Rwanda's Nyamasheke region have been really impressive the last few seasons. Another great example is this natural offering courtesy of Muraho Trading Company’s Cyesha Coffee Washing Station in Nyamasheke, Rwanda. It's got candy sweetness, fruity zing and warm earthy tones which combine for delightful complexity. We tasted notes of strawberry, kiwi, green apple and caramel.

The Nyamasheke District of Rwanda has quickly built a reputation for producing some of the best coffee Rwanda has to offer and this naturally processed offering from the Cyesha Washing Station courtesy of Muraho Trading Company is another great example. We also currently have the washed offering in our warehouse so you can have the experience of trying both processing methods from the same producer!

Muraho Trading Company are front runners in the experimentation of different processing methods; they were the first Rwandan company to be given approval by their governing board to produce natural and honey-processed coffees back in 2016. This has since provided the opportunity for other producers to do the same along the way.

On the cupping table this coffee performed spectacularly! We tasted smooth candy sweetness, warm earthy depth and crisp fruity notes which combined to make funky complexity…but like the good kind of funky, like slappin da bass funky y’all. We enjoyed a pleasantly bright front end followed by a nice medium to full body with a delightfully silky texture. We tasted flavors of fresh strawberry, ripe kiwi, green apple, and caramel sweetness. Be sure to try this one!

Reminder! This coffee is raw, you must roast it before brewing

Royal Coffee NY - "This lot comes to us from Muraho Trading Company’s Cyesha Coffee Washing Station in Nyamasheke, Rwanda. Muraho was founded by two brothers, Karthick & Gaudam Anbalagan, who are driven to showcase to the world what Rwanda specialty coffee is all about. Cyesha is their newest washing station, acquired in December 2021.

Coffee from Cyesha is extra special because of the volcanic soil and high altitude, up to 1800 meters above sea level, of the farm. The washing station is also near one of the majestic African Great Lakes, Lake Kivu. The wind flow from the lake through the surrounding hills is ideal for drying coffees.

Cyesha upholds the highest of standards to achieve the best quality specialty coffee possible. Only red ripe cherries are received at the station. The cherries are all checked upon arrival, then resorted on sorting tables and then passed through an intensive floating quality process. After floating is done then the cherries are pulped and dry fermented for 12 hours. After that the coffee is washed, graded and soaked. Finally the coffee is moved to a pre drying area to be hand sorted until it is moved to the drying tables.

Muraho Trading Company takes pride in testing and experimenting with different processing methods. They are proud to be the first company in Rwanda to be given authority from the governing board to produce Natural and Honey coffees back in 2016. This has since paved the way for other producers to do so! In the coming seasons, they are looking forward to processing honeys, anaerobic fully washed and anaerobic naturals at Cyesha Washing Station.”
