Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Aricha Washed

A washed Yirgacheffe with surprising body and sweetness. This stellar coffee is refreshing and balanced with notes of pear, mild lemon and lavender.

Processing: Full Washed, hand-picked, sun dried

Roasting: Start at City + (light-medium) and go a bit darker as desired. We find it best not to go any darker than Full City (Medium) and in fact you could go as light as city (light) to bring out more acidity and brightness.

Our Review: If you've been shopping with The Captain's Coffee for a while, you know what huge fans we are of natural processed Ethiopian coffees. In fact, we sometimes find ourselves sheepishly thinking, "huh, we haven't had a washed Ethiopian coffee is a long time." Yet somehow, every time we cup the washed Ethiopian, we're surprised at what we've been missing! 

Yirgacheffe is one of the most well known coffee producing regions of Ethiopia and for good reason. We've consistently had incredible coffee from Yirgacheffe over the years, whether it be natural processed or washed, so when it came to selecting a washed coffee, we knew just where to look. We wanted something distinctive and representative of this renowned region, but something unique enough to stand on its own. Washed coffees from Yirgacheffe tend to be mild, delicate, subtle and floral with an almost tea-like body. This Aricha carries the best of those characteristics, but with much more body and less subtlety than we anticipated! It's got a wonderful, full mouthfeel and the sweet flavors of pear and lavender shine through much more fully than we expected. If you've avoided washed Ethiopian coffees in the past because they were too subtle and delicate for you, give this one a try and see what you've been missing!
