Because of these securuty measures that we have put in place, buying from The Captain's Coffee online is far more secure than calling in your order with a credit card over the phone, or sending it to us via email.  It's even more secure than handing your credit card to a waiter at a restaurant!

Return Policy - Privacy Policy - General Info

The Captain's Coffee is dedicated to spreading the joy of home coffee roasting. It's too good and too easy to keep it a secret. We won't sell a coffee that we don't personally drink and enjoy. We continually cup samples from a variety of sources to select and offer you what we think are the finest green coffees available. We will expand our offerings only when we encounter what is, in our opinion, an exceptional coffee. We hope you enjoy the coffee and home coffee roasting as much as we do.


Our Exciting Return Policy:

Green Coffee

If you are unsatisfied with your green coffee purchase, we will issue you a refund in the form of an in-store credit. Since coffee is a food item, we can't take it back once it leaves our control. We will work closely with you to insure you get the quality you expected at a price that is fair. This offer is good for 30 days from the date of shipment.

We will faithfully adhere to this policy for every customer, unless that customer is repeatedly abusing it.  We withold the right to deny refunds, in rare cases, where a customer is repeatedly ordering coffee and then asking for a refund.

Note that Hawaii Department of Agriculture regulations won't allow us to ship raw coffee to Hawaii.

Home Coffee Roasters

The Gene Cafe and Behmor 1600 Plus are covered by a 1 year warranty from the manufacturer. The Fresh Roast SR-300 and SR-500 come with a 1 year warranty on the base unit and a 6 month warranty on the chaff collector, top cap and basket. Since the roasters are UL certified, the manufacturers ask that we refer all warranty issues directly to them. Although we do not directly provide repair service, we'll help you through the process to get your roaster back up and running. Should you return an unused roaster to us, we will refund your purchase minus the original shipping cost. Once you've used your roaster, we really can't take it back.

Other Items Offered by The Captain‘s Coffee

Any item not covered by a manufacturer's warranty is warranted by The Captain's Coffee to meet or exceed your expectations. If you are dissatisfied with your purchase for any reason, you may return the item to The Captain's Coffee for a replacement or refund in the form of an in-store credit. This offer is good for 30 days from the date of shipment. If applicable, the manufacturer's warranty will supersede this warranty for items sold by The Captain's Coffee.

The Captain's Coffee will never knowingly share or expose any information about you to anyone. It's none of their business.

NC Sales & Food Tax Info

Our web site correctly computes food tax (2% for green coffee) and sales tax (6.75% for everything else) for NC residents. You are welcome to call in your order, but you do not need to if you prefer using the web site.

We charge tax for orders with a billing address in North Carolina only.

How To Edit Your Order After Purchase

It happens all the time. You put your coffee order in, click on the "confirm order" button and right at that instant realize that you forgot to order something else. Oh, well, you don't want to pay an extra shipping charge (although our subsidized shipping is VERY reasonable) so you just let it go.

How To Edit Your Order After Placement:

  • Go back to the web site and put your order in again.
  • This time, select the "I will pick up my order" shipping option for which there is no charge. Leave us a note in the remarks section just before confirming the order reminding us to combine it with your other order.

This way you get ALL the stuff you originally wanted without paying an unnecessary shipping charge. Works for us—how's that sound to you?

Oh—one more thing—if the additional stuff you added won't fit in the original shipping method you selected (Priority Mail Flat Rate Box comes to mind) or puts you in a higher weight class for our flat rate shipping than your orignal order, we'll just give you a call and discuss the options and work it out. Pretty simple.

We are located at 791 Blowing Rock Rd, Boone, North Carolina. This is also home to Local Lion Doughnuts and Espresso Bar as well as our commercial coffee roasting company, Mountain Lion Coffee. Feel free to drop by anytime and chat over a delicious home made doughnut!


Local Lion (our base of operations) is open to the public Monday through Saturday 7am to 8:30pm. If you'd like to chat with one of the fine folks from The Captain's Coffee, please keep in mind we're busy folks and may be out when you come by. If you'd like to make sure one of us is around to chat, just drop us a line and give us a heads-up. We'll do our best to be there when you stop in!

Local Order Pick-Up

You are welcome to come by and pick up your order, but here's the drill:

1. Please place your order through the web site before you come to pick it up. Choose the "I will pick up my order" shipping option, and drop by during Local Lion business hours (see above section). Please keep in mind that we cannot take over the counter sales for The Captain's Coffee on site, all orders must be processed online. That being said, we do have free Wi-Fi at Local Lion and you can just process your order on your phone or laptop while you're here.

2. Don't plan on coming by and "browsing". We have an office area up front where we will meet you and give you your order, but the back is still a warehouse with plenty of things to trip over or bump in to, so we can't allow you back in that area. And frankly, it's just a lot of burlap bags and buckets and cardboard boxes so you really haven't missed a whole lot! We'd still be happy to describe our current selections to you up front as well as chat about what we recommend!
